Consistency across a set of images is not a talent problem, it is a settings problem. Nobody applies exactly the same crop, adjustment and sharpening to sixty product photographs by eye on a Tuesday afternoon. Similar, yes. The same, no.

Actions fix that. Press Record, do the work once, press stop and give it a name. From then on it replays on any image from the menu, identically, every time.

There are useful ones bundled already, sorted by category: web optimized at several widths, email friendly, thumbnail, fit to full HD, half size, and photo fixes like auto fix and rescue underexposed. Those alone cover a surprising amount of daily work.

Two things make them more than a convenience. A layer’s filters and adjustments can be saved directly as a look, so a color grade you like becomes reusable without re-recording it. And actions export and import as JSON files, so a treatment developed on one site can be handed to another site, or to a colleague.

A preset is one setting. An action is a sequence of steps, so it can resize, adjust, sharpen and export in a fixed order. That order is usually what matters.

Yes, through the Image Processor, which applies an action plus export settings across a whole selection from the media library. That part is in Pro.

Steps that make no sense for a given image are skipped rather than failing the run. Still worth testing an action on two or three files before pointing it at a hundred.
